Employee Wellness
Engage Employees to Become Healthier!
In today’s corporate rat race, employees are working longer hours, more days, taking less vacation and time away from family. Some do it because they so truly care about the company they work for. Some do it because they own their own company. Some do it to climb the ladder. Whichever the reason may be, this excess in work is coming at a high cost.
A high cost to the business. A burnt out employee is not a productive employee. (Secret – more hours does not mean more results!)
A high cost to the employers benefit plan. Unhealthy employees call in sick more often. Use more resources on their benefits plan. These cost the employer more money every year. Money that could be put towards business development and growth and employee development and growth.
A high cost to your employees overall wellness. When employees view the company culture to be work work work and no time for personal health, they begin to build walls of spite. They fail to see the company mission. They become disconnected. Sometimes this goes unnoticed and other times it can cost them their job. This again costs the employer money having to hire and retrain.
All of the above innately become intertwined. They are cyclical. Now, let’s flip this around.
Employees are encouraged to be healthy. Encouraged to exercise. Encouraged to take time for mental well-being. Employers are now viewed as caring for their team. That’s a win. In return they get vested employees. They get healthy employees, which statistically are more productive employees. Productivity means getting more done in less time. Sales increase. Culture increases. Camaraderie goes up! Look out! You have a thriving business that won’t stop growing!
There are multiple ways to engage employees to become healthier.
- Host a wellness day or lunch and learns. Lots can be done to educate and engage your team.
- Find discounted memberships for your group. Want to be a real employer hero? Offer to give a kickback or sponsor the plan! Don’t worry, you’ll see the return on the productivity, sick time, etc etc etc.
- Research and provide alternative methods to a traditional gym. Home based plans work amazing. Not everyone wants to go to a gym for a variety of reasons. So, by having alternatives available, you appeal to a wide variety of demographics.
Whatever it may be, putting employee wellness first creates a healthy culture that will pay back dividends on your business!
