Knowing the Differences
in your Fitness Options
Well, let’s call out that elephant in the room. Our industry, locally and abroad is full of options for people to choose from. Whether you are brand new to exercise or a seasoned vet, everyone has something that they want to get from their gym of choice. At face value, we almost all look the same (four walls with equipment taking up the space in between.) However, at a deeper level, we are all vastly different and prior to choosing one, you should know how each one will benefit you and help you achieve your goals. You are getting a membership to achieve goals right?
Price is what you pay. Value is what you get. What is the difference between $10 and $40 a month? Afterall, we are just four walls with equipment packed in between right? Wrong. $10 will get you access to equipment, basic level instruction and a staff of people who may or may not have much fitness industry experience. The greater problem lies in the fact that these people, to no fault of their own, think this is what all gyms provide, therefore when this gets old and boring, they stop. They do not realize the greater potential and services that are available to them at other health clubs.
So, what does $30-$40 get you? Once you pay a little bit more, the value goes up. You should be receiving in-depth fitness assessments, orientations on equipment, access to more educated and experienced fitness staff, personal trainers, wide variety of classes, wider variety of equipment, more amenities (towels, wifi, juice bars, etc.) You should become a name, not a number. You should be at a facility that wants you to use their club, not just pay and not show up. That alone is worth the price difference. Free classes should include: Indoor group cycling, Yoga, HIIT, Stretching, Zumba, Tabata, TRX, Bootcamps, etc.
If you are just beginning your fitness journey or thinking of starting, be sure your club supports you and has your best interests in mind, Ask questions. Wherever you decide to begin, you are taking the first and best step you can. Enjoy it and never give up! When trying to make that $10 or $35 decision, ask yourself what you may spend $25 a month on that could be allocated towards a healthier lifestyle and getting you results.
